Kogi Central: PDP Hit by Major Defection as Top Supporter Joins APC with Over 1,000 Members

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi Central Senatorial District has suffered a devastating setback as its notable grassroots political leader, Honourable Abdulsalami Ozovehe, popularly known as “D Nation,” dumped the party and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) with over a thousand of his supporters.

Honourable Abdulsalami Ozovehe, whose vast political network spans the five Local Government Areas of the Senatorial District, stated in a brief address that he and his supporters were drawn to the APC due to the transformative governance being executed by the party from the federal to the state level.

He gave the assurance that he would fully support the administration and the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ododo for a second term in office.

The defection ceremony, which was highly anticipated, took place in Okaito/Usungwe Ward of Okehi LGA and was attended by APC stalwarts from within and outside Kogi Central.

Speaking at the occasion, Kogi State Auditor-General for Local Government, Hon. Siyaka Yakubu Adabenege, promised Honourable Abdulsalami Ozovehe full integration into the party, emphasizing that there would be no segregation of new defectors.

The Okehi LGA Chairman, Hon. Monday Eneji Amoka in his contribution, stated, “We are here for affirmation because Hon. Abdulsalami Ozovehe has always been an APC member at heart. Where hierarchy is recognized, Honourable Abdulsalami Ozovehe is at the top. He is a peace ambassador who detests acrimony.”

Amoka expressed optimism that Okehi LGA would continue to make progress due to the renewed unity in the LG. He commended the youths and women of the LG for participating in the Continuous Voter Registration Exercise.

A two-term representative of Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdulkareem Salihu, expressed excitement about Honourable Abdulsalami Ozovehe’s defection to the APC. “I have been urging him to defect, and I believe his exceptional leadership skills will be invaluable to the development of the APC..” He said

Commissioner for Women Affairs, Honourable Fatima Momoh, commended the defector for making a timely decision to return to the APC, which she referred to as his original party. According to her, his decision to support the APC is in the interest of the development of Ebiraland and Kogi State in general.

Hon. Zakaria Otokiti, a member representing Okehi at the Kogi State Assembly, expressed delight that Honourable Abdulsalami Ozovehe had joined the APC to contribute to the party’s development in Okehi and Kogi State. He stated that with this, the re-election of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for a second term in office would be effortless.

The stakeholders unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for a second term in office, citing their transformative strides in all sectors.

Other prominent personalities in attendance included former House of Representatives member, Hon. Kabiru Ajanah; founder of Hajia Onize Connect (HOC), Hajia Yakubu Onize; Adavi LG Chairman, Hon. Abdulrashid Bashir Okatengwu; former Okehi LGA Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Suberu; and Hon. Isah Dolly, Chairman of Kogi Sports Council.
