Kogi Covid-19 squadron in Kabba to enforce lockdown
Kogi State Squadron against the Coronavirus Pandemic is in Kabba to supervise the compliance level of people of the Local Government Area by Governor Yahaya Bello for the area to be locked down for contact tracing over the alleged Coronavirus index case by a religious from the area who was confirmed in Abuja.
The Squadron which is led by the state commissioner for health, Dr Haruna Saka and the commissioner for information, Hon Kingsley Fanwo, were accompanied by the Security Assistant to the Governor in the area, Hon Ariyo Adebayo and other health professionals.
Speaking on the need for the exercise, Hon Fanwo said it was to enable the Squadron team in the area to carry out effective contact tracing and testing to ascertain the veracity of the claim of Coronavirus case recorded against the state by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The commissioner, who had led other members of the team on a courtesy visit on the palace of the Obaro of Kabba, informed the traditional ruler that the exercise was in compliance with the best global protocol for preventing the spread of the virus.
He said the decision by the Governor was a difficult one but that government was left with no option when some notable people from the area came out to publicly acknowledge the presence of Covid-19 in the domain.
Hon Fanwo enjoined the people of Kabba to take the decision as a sacrifice they have to make to ensure due diligence was done as laid down by the World Health Organisation and the other national and international health bodies.
Hosting the team, the Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi who echoed residents’ sentiments said the people live by their daily efforts to earn a living, and that the restriction of movement would affect them economically and socially in a drastic manner.
He therefore appealed to the Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and other state government functionaries to look into the plight of his people and lift the lockdown order.
Few residents who were seen sitting beside their homes observing what was going on about the order had also appealed to the Governor to relax it as they had no Covid-19 in their domain.
