The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward David Onoja has enrolled for his Masters Degree program in Conflict and Peace Studies (MCPS) at the Federal University in Lokoja, Kogi State .
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Promise Emmanuel, Onoja resumed class on March 2nd, 2020, and targets the year 2023 for his PhD.
He said the Deputy Governor was attracted to the field which is in the Arts and Humanities because of contemporary complexities of today’s world which is ever growing and constantly changing, which necessitates the world to need experts in such fields.
“Conflict specifically has a Biblical foundation as the Bible notes that as the world of people expands, conflict grows.
‘in Government, one is confronted on daily basis with issues requiring complex decision making arising from conflicts as well as negotiations within groups of people that requires adequate mediating expertise which Conflict and Peace Studies come handy in arming you with requisite skills to perform excellently in that dimension”.
He also revealed that his motivation for this academic drive is his elder brother, Pharmacist Alexander Onoja, who has ten Masters degrees, studying two Ph.Ds in different fields and currently a 400 level Law Student.
Onoja said he is further motivated to study law because his daughter Hally, is expected to enrol in one of the universities in the country to study law next year. “I want to be a law student too so we can compare notes”. He said.
