Kogi Deputy Governor tasks new CUSTECH management on academic excellence, accountability

The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward Onoja, has felicitated with Engr. Prof. Salawu Sadiku on his appointment by Governor Yahaya Bello as the Vice Chancellor of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State.

The Kogi State Government founded the institution about one month ago to improve access to tertiary learning and further deepen the education sector. CUSTECH will focus on the development of human resources for the state and the country that is proficient in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Yesterday, the administration, in a statement signed by Dr. Mrs. Folashade Ayoade, the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, announced the appointment of the renowned academic and others to steer the CUSTECH. The statement also named Ms. Hudson Olufunke Ejiwumi as registrar of the institution while Mr. Alaji John, the Bursar.

Other members of the Management team announced include Mr. Salifu Jeremiah, Arch. Usman Muhammed Ahmed and Pharm. Muhammed Asuku Audu as Librarian, Director of Works/Physical Planning and Director of Academic Planning respectively.

While felicitating with the appointees, Chief Onoja urged them to regard their duty as a most sacred one, noting that as the pioneer management the direction in which they set the institution now will influence its academic culture and overall character for a long time to come.

‘You are the midwives of a golden child. If you break its spine or any of its limbs at birth, it will always have handicaps. But if you bring the exemplary character and excellent cognate skills which influenced your appointment into the labour room, CUSTECH will emerge a healthy baby that will grow fast to meet and surpass the aspirations of everyone, especially the founder and visitor, Governor Yahaya Bello.’

Chief Onoja who noted that the team’s appointment comes to accelerate the Unification Project of the present government in Kogi State therefore charged them to embrace the same agenda in discharging their duties, especially as they serve as the Pioneer Management Team at foundation.

The Deputy Governor whose message was released to the press by Promise Emmanuel, his Chief Press Secretary, also felicitated with Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi whose appointment as the new and third Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja was announced yesterday Friday by the Governing Council of the institution.

The Deputy Governor noted that the appointment marked the first time an indigene of Kogi State would be heading the FUL in over 10 years of its existence and urged Professor Akinwunmi to display the customary excellence and fairness associated with Kogites in his management of the school.

Chief Onoja therefore wished both the CUSTECH management and FUL Vice Chancellor God’s guidance and help for a successful assignment.
