Kogi Deputy Speaker lauds Gov Bello’s plans to reposition Technical Colleges, makes case for GTC Ankpa

The Deputy Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly and member representing Ankpa 1 constituency, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Mohammed has commended the effort of Governor Yahaya Bello to reposition Government Technical Colleges in the state.

The Legislator who spoke shortly after the visit of the Honorable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, and his team on an On the spot assessment of facilities at Government Technical College Oboroke (GTCO), Ihima in Okehi Local Government Area of the state said it was a timely and people oriented move by the government.

Hon. Ahmed said as a stakeholder and one who has achieved greatly in his early days through his acquired skills, he moved a motion on 20th October, 2020 calling on the state Government to Rehabilitate, Equip And Ensure Efficient Functioning Of Vocational And Technical Colleges In Kogi State.

In his words; “Technical education contributes so much as it builds the intelligence of students, their skills and capacity with courses raging from Electrical and Electronics Technology, Metalwork Technology, Mechanical/Automobile Engineering technology, Building Technology, Woodwork Technology Fabrication Engineering Technology amongst other. It impacts vital technical skills in the youths, and help towards the goal of self employment and job creation and in the struggle towards technological advancement and skill acquisition”.

“I commend the effort of Alh. Yahaya Bello, who has taken steps to ensure that, our technical colleges are brought to full operation and I want to plead that, Government Technical College Ankpa should also be given a fast/accelerated consideration; he said.

Part of the inspection team yesterday is the Permanent Secretary of the education ministry, Pastor Emmanuel Idenyi; and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Abdulsalam Deedat Ozigi, who accompanied the education commissioner.
