Kogi Government Signs MoU with Pora Films for Establishment of State Television

The Kogi state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pora Films for the establishment of Kogi Television, the first state-owned television station since the creation of Kogi in 1991.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony on Friday, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Arike Ayoade, said the MoU, a Public Private Partnership is expected to last for five years and renewable for two years after which it will be handed over to the State Government.
She described the initiative as a historic milestone, emphasizing that the project, championed by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, would bridge the long-standing gap in the state’s media presence, providing a platform to tell the Kogi story, promote investment opportunities, and enhance global visibility.

“For years, Kogi remained the only state in Nigeria without its own television station. Today, that gap is being filled. This project is not just about broadcasting; it is about showcasing our culture and positioning Kogi on the national and international media map,” she said.
Dr. Ayoade commended Pora Films for their technical expertise, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver a world-class television station. She also stressed the crucial role of the Ministry of Information and Communications in ensuring the project’s successful execution, with a vision to make Kogi Television a competitive platform among leading broadcast networks like DSTV and Startimes.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, lauded Governor Ododo for actualizing the long-awaited dream. He noted that the selection of Pora Films was a deliberate decision aimed at ensuring quality, with an assurance that Kogi Television would become one of the best in the country.

In his remarks, the co-founder of Pora Films, Mr. Olajide Ojoniyi, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the historic project. He pledged the company’s commitment to working with the government to establish a television station that meets global standards.
The MoU was witnessed by the Director General Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, Princess Nana Hauwa Yussuf, Managing Director of The Graphics Newspaper, Yusuf Itopa, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on print media, Hon. Avoyi Nwongwu amongst other stakeholders. They expressed optimism that with this partnership, Kogi State is set to make a significant leap in the media industry, providing a platform for information dissemination, cultural promotion, and socio-economic development.
