Kogi Governor Urges CUSTECH Students to Avoid Protests Amidst Abduction Crisis

In a bid to quell rising tensions at Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), the Special Adviser to Kogi State the Governor on Youth and Student Matters, Oladele John Nihi, has appealed to students to refrain from protesting in response to the recent abductions of their peers. The call for calm follows a distressing voice note circulating on social media, in which kidnappers are allegedly demanding a 200 Million Naira ransom within 24 hours for the release of a student named Ms. Fatima.

Nihi in a statement made available to journalists in Lokoja on Friday acknowledged the anxiety and concern gripping the CUSTECH community but emphasized that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and security agencies are working relentlessly to secure the safe return of the kidnapped students.

“Governor Ododo values the lives of all students and humans in general and will not rest until the students are rescued and reunited with their families,” he stated.

He reassured the students and their families that comprehensive efforts are underway to ensure the release of the abducted individuals.

Stressing the potential dangers of yielding to ransom demands, Nihi cautioned against actions that could inadvertently fund and encourage further criminal activities. “While no amount of money is too much to pay for a life, we must be mindful of the long-term consequences of our actions,” he noted.

Nihi urged the students to remain composed and place their trust in the ongoing governmental and security efforts. “We will continue to work together to ensure the safe return of our colleagues and the security of our state,” he concluded.
