Kogi Govt bans Traditional Procession in Kotonkarfe, Environs Over Security Concerns
The Kogi state government has announced the ban of traditional procession in Kotonkarfe Local Government Area and its immediate environs over security noting that such decision was a needed proactive measure to maintain peace enjoyed.
This was made known on Tuesday in a press statement signed by the Commissioner for information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo who also confirmed that the state government was acting on security reports.
According to him the proactive ban was aimed at curbing plans by some elements in the area to disturb the peace of the ancient town.
He mentioned that the state governor, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo has reiterated his administration’s commitment to peaceful co-existence among all Kotonkarfe people and would always leave his doors open to listen to complaints and grievances rather than resort to violence.
Fanwo said the state government urged all concerned to strictly abide by the ban as violators would be treated as enemies of peace and the State adding that the decision of the State Government is aimed at protecting the rights of the Kotonkarfe people, and indeed all Kogites, to peace and security.
He added that government has urged law enforcement agents to enforce the ban in accordance with the laws of the land adding that Kotonkarfe people should also be committed to peace and harmony as the Government is prepared to protect them from violence.
