Kogi govt. receives first payment as oil producing state

  • .as Commissioner assures that state will witness more developmental strides

Kogi state government on Thursday received the first payment from the Federal Government’s 13% derivation account, signaling the state official enlistment as one of the oil producing states in the country as recommended by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

This was contained in an announcement made by the state Governor, Yahaya Bello during the State Executive Council Meeting on Thursday, where the governor also added that Kogi historically was the first and only state in the Northern region to be enlisted in the league of oil producing earners in the country.

Reacting to this information during a Press Briefing after the EXCO close door session, Commissioner for Information and Communication strategy, Kingsley Fanwo noted that although the state was pronounced an oil producing state in 2021 the enlistment became effective today.

He added that the governor has assured the citizens that the revenue derivatives from oil would be judiciously used for the overall good of the citizens of Kogi State adding that the government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello would further do more in areas of infrastructures and very germane sectors of the state.

The commissioner who commended the tenacity of the governor in pursuing the enlistment of the state as an oil producing state despite efforts by previous administration alluded that the governor promised that his pledge to ensure that Kogi’s resources was for the benefit of Kogi people remained intact and would be adhered to.

Also speaking with the Press, the Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic planning, Asiwaju Idris Mukadam noted that owing to the governor’s track records particularly in the area of security and infrastructural development, the state was well placed and prepared to welcome investors and oil companies, particular in the discovery area which would further boost the state’s economy and provide jobs for the youths of the state.
