Kogi Poly Ag. Rector inaugurates Cmmt to oversee 6 hostels renovation

Kogi State Polytechnic Acting Rector, Dr. Usman Ogbo on Tuesday inaugurated committees that would spearhead the renovation of several hostels in the polytechnic which he affirmed would be executed through direct labour to actively engage the institution vast human resources.

The Acting Rector lauded Governor Yahaya Bello for his continued support for the institution in such a manner that would help position it amongst the ivy leagues in polytechnic education.

Dr. Ogbo revealed that the institution which secured over 268 million naira facility from its financial partner, Zenith Bank resolved to engaging direct labour method of implementation as approved by the state government which was more efficient to manage resources available adequately.

The seven different Committees which cuts across members of the polytechnic community and selected students, according to the Acting Rector were men of proven integrity who were experts in their various field, noting that he could take such risk to justify the confidence reposed in them.

The Acting Rector noted that the committees should engage persons within their immediate environment adding that the terms of reference of the Committees Includes: roofings, structural work, fencing, drainage, painting, tiling, provision of portable water amongst others that would see to the finishing of the hostels.

The inaugurated six committees would see to the renovations of main hostel 1-12blocks, Mary Ajayi, London hostel, London hostel 1-2, Afakariya, Wada Hostel 1-2 and the Central monitoring committee, headed by the Acting Rector responsible for oversight functions.

The Ag. Rector assured that the institution would not be distracted over certain propaganda in some social media space as regards some of its giant strides in recent times, saying that they remained resolute in placing Kogi State Polytechnic amidst highly reputable institutions within its league.

In his vote of thanks the Student Union Government, President of the Institution Mr. Teino Oguche expressed his gratitude to the state Governor for his continued support of the Institution’s acting rector noting that he has changed the narratives within his stay in office

He noted that for over 5 years, students of the institution were subjected to renting houses outside the institution and had to pay expensive house rent as they were also subjected to certain levels of insecurity.

Mr. Oguche opined that, when the renovations were completed, students would pay less for accommodation and would be eased from some of the economic impact of the post covid-19 era.
