Kogi School Adoption, Mentorship Programme: Education Commissioner Takes Lead

The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB IION, kick-started the recently launched School Adoption and Mentorship Programme of the Ministry, as he visited selected schools in Lokoja on Thursday to teach senior secondary students on basic principles of success.

Accompanied by top management staff of the Ministry, Mr.Jones told his own stories to motivate the students; encouraging them to develop helpful skills rather than just go through regimental schooling.

The Commissioner maintained that discipline, tenacity, determination, perseverance and focus would propel the students higher in their chosen careers and urged them to imbibe the good attributes to be more successful in life

He reiterated the commitment of the Bello-led administration to the Programme in building a brand new educational system where students from the state would measure up to standard anywhere they go.

Hon. Jones also advised the students to maintain good integrity and shun social vices especially when they go higher to tertiary institutions; saying the state needed a future generation to be proud of.

He called on able Kogites and good hearted Nigerians to key into the School Adoption and Mentorship Programme of the Ministry to restore public schools back to their old glory.

The commissioner said the Ministry will spread the message of school adoption and mentorship to the grassroots.

Reacting to the visit, the Principal of Crowther Memorial College, Lokoja Mrs. Mabel Ogunmola said her school was highly honoured to be the first beneficiary of the Programme.

She called on other stakeholders to follow the good example of Hon. Jones and contribute their quota to the development of students and schools in the state.

At Government Science Secondary School, Lokoja, the Principal, Mr. Ibrahim Onipe said the staff and students of the school were elated at the Commissioner’s visit; praising him for choosing a topic gamane to the overall development of the students.

Hon. Jones donated books to many students and the schools visited.
