The Kogi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has significantly escalated its fight against criminal activities within the state. This move comes in response to a surge in criminal activities attributed to insurgents, bandits, and kidnappers displaced from the North East.

This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, who said in recent weeks, the state has faced increased security challenges, but Governor Ododo’s administration has adopted a stringent approach to combat these threats.

He noted the successful rescue of 21 out of 24 CUSTECH students kidnapped last week, stressing the government’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens. “Additionally, two women from Yagba West and Yagba East Local Government Areas, who were kidnapped, have been rescued, and efforts continue to locate the remaining three students,” he stated.

Fanwo said the government has also secured the release of several kidnapped victims from other states who were held in Kogi’s forests, demonstrating its broader commitment to addressing regional security concerns.

“To bolster security, Governor Ododo has approved the immediate employment of thousands of local hunters across all 21 Local Government Areas. These hunters are tasked with targeting criminal hideouts, a strategy already showing positive results.

“Joint operations involving the Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Metropolitan Response Squad, and Hunters Group are currently underway across Lokoja and the three senatorial districts, including border communities.

“Governor Ododo has effectively declared war on criminals, mobilizing substantial resources and personnel to ensure their defeat. He has expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support in these efforts.

“The state government assures its citizens that it is diligently working to protect everyone, promising that criminals will not escape justice. Citizens are also encouraged to support these efforts by providing intelligence to security agencies. The criminals are rattled and they won’t escape justice.”

The Commissioner noted that the Kogi State Government remains steadfast in its mission to create a secure and peaceful environment for all its residents.
