Members of the Kogi Youth Development Commission on Tuesday 14th September, 2021 paid a visit to the Management of the Dangote Group of Company at the Obajana Cement Plant (OCP) in Kogi State.

The visit was aimed at fostering partnership and building a synergy between the commission and the multinational company in reducing unemployment in Kogi State.

Chairman of the commission, Mr. Lawal Ozomata James in his address commended the company for creating job opportunities directly and indirectly for the people of the state thereby reducing youth restiveness and anti-social activities.

He however noted that more still needs to be done to continue to sustain the peace and security that businesses like the Plant and others are enjoying.

“Kogi State under the leadership of His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello is one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. This is because the Governor included Youths in leadership positions. This decision allows for young people to be at tables where decisions are made, thereby enabling them to solve their own problems by making their own inputs.”

“In line with the mandate of the Kogi State Youth Development Commission to attract funding and programmes from partners therefore, the commission is seeking the collaboration and support of your organization to ensure more Youths are empowered through skill acquisition, ICT Development, Agriculture among others.”

The Senior General Manager, Production, Mr. John Gwom who represented the Plant Director applaud the decision of the Kogi State Government to create a youth commission to cater for the needs of the young people across the State. “The Dangote Group of Company will continue to exhibit it’s own responsibility and continue to partner with the state in ensuring security, peace and community services” he stated.

“The Obajana Cement Plant has over 2400 direct workers and over 65% of that total population are from Kogi State,” he added, nothing that the company has the Dangote Academy that is saddled with the responsibility of training Youths in specialize areas in Engineering and Skill Acquisition with special focus to the youths of Kogi State especially in the areas of welding, fabrication and electrical installations.

“Some of these students are being absorbed by company while others prefer to get established and be on their own. The company he said will not relent and will continue to expand it’s horizons.”

The Senior General Manager Production urged the commission to formally put their request through the General Manager Community Affairs and assured the members that it will be given a speedy consideration.

END.
