Kogi youth and student leaders commend Governor Ododo over 100 per cent increase in monthly subvention.

Youth and student organisation leaders in Kogi State have commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for approving a 100 per cent increase in their monthly subvention.

Youth and student leaders in Kogi State have commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for approving a 100 per cent increase in the monthly subvention to youth and student organisations, saying the decision will strengthen their operations and improve their capacity to contribute to governance and development.

The leaders made the commendation on Tuesday during a press conference at the OJN Foundation Secretariat, Zone 8 Roundabout, Lokoja, where representatives of various youth and student organisations described the increase as a boost to institutional capacity and youth participation in the state.

The increased monthly subvention is expected to provide beneficiary organisations with additional financial resources to address operational challenges and implement programmes relating to student welfare, leadership development, policy advocacy and community engagement.

The press conference was attended by presidents and executives of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kogi State Chapter, Nigeria Youth Congress (NYC), Association of Nigerian Female Students (ANFS), Kogi State Chapter, Kogi State Youth Parliament and other youth groups.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Student Matters, Hon. Oladele John Nihi, described the approval as an indication of the Ododo administration’s commitment to supporting young people and strengthening youth-focused institutions.

Nihi said the increase would help address some of the operational difficulties confronting youth and student organisations while enabling them to play more effective roles in policy advocacy, student welfare and community development.

He added that the intervention reflected the administration’s recognition of youth participation in governance and the importance of supporting organisations that provide platforms for young people to express their interests and contribute to decision-making.

In their separate remarks, the youth and student leaders expressed appreciation to the governor for the approval and pledged to ensure that the additional financial support was managed transparently and accountably.

They said the increased subvention would place greater responsibility on their organisations to demonstrate effective leadership, improve service delivery and justify the government’s investment.

The leaders also called on their members across Kogi State to maintain constructive engagement with the government and remain committed to initiatives that promote peace, unity and development.

They further urged the state government to sustain policies and programmes focused on student welfare, youth empowerment and inclusive governance.

The organisations reaffirmed their support for the Ododo administration, maintaining that continued investment in youth institutions would improve their ability to represent their members and contribute meaningfully to the development of Kogi State.

They said the increase should serve as motivation for youth and student organisations to strengthen their activities, uphold accountability and deliver greater value to their respective constituencies.
