Koton Karfe Medical Outreach Screens 188 People »

The Kogi State Government has provided mobile medical services to 188 inmates and personnel at the Koton Karfe Correctional Centre as part of efforts to improve access to healthcare in correctional facilities across the state.

The medical outreach, conducted on Friday, September 25, 2026, by the Kogi State Ministry of Health, included basic medical screening and other health services for inmates and personnel of the facility.

The mobile medical team, led by Dr Komolafe, deployed portable digital X-ray technology with artificial intelligence capability to screen beneficiaries, particularly for tuberculosis and other chest-related conditions.

The team also collected body samples from beneficiaries for further laboratory investigations.

According to the state government, the intervention was initiated by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to ensure that people in correctional facilities have access to essential healthcare services and that their health needs are not overlooked.

An inmate who benefited from the exercise expressed appreciation for the intervention, saying, “I thought the world had forgotten me, but today Ododo has reminded me that I am not forgotten.”

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Adams Abdulazeez, said the governor had also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reforms in the nation’s correctional services and interventions supporting Kogi State under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Abdulazeez said Ododo reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting federal efforts aimed at improving the welfare, safety and dignity of people in correctional facilities.

He added that the governor remained committed to ensuring that healthcare and other government interventions reached different segments of the population.

The commissioner commended the outcome of the exercise and praised the management and personnel of the Koton Karfe Correctional Centre, as well as the inmates, for their cooperation with the medical team.

Abdulazeez disclosed that the Ministry of Health would sustain the intervention and extend similar mobile medical services to other correctional facilities across Kogi State.

He said the initiative was part of the administration’s broader effort to strengthen access to healthcare and ensure that no category of people is excluded from essential health services.
