Live it, Cliché it, Truth Remains Truth – By Oshaloto Joseph Tade

The question “What would you be remembered for” has been asked very so often that it has become somewhat of a cliché. Fortunately, according to Mr Femi Adesina, “facts are a stubborn thing.” So, whether a piece of truth becomes a culture or a cliché, truth will continue to be truth.

I write this with the world in mind. I write this with Nigeria in mind. I write this with my beloved local government of Yagba West in mind, and I feel, on one hand, incredibly hopeful, and, on the other hand, hugely concerned.

The privilege of representing His Excellency, Gov Yahaya Bello as a security aide in charge of the vast land of Yagba West is a whole new experience that forces on my heart thoughts, imaginations and inspirations that I believe are inspired by the Almighty to answer certain growth and development questions.

I do not fear what a politician fears, in any case, I’m not one. Rather, I fear for any individual or people who, for the satisfaction of the moment, discounts the things that truly matter. Things like a good name. Things like contentement, equity, good legacy and all the things that an Abundant Life represents.

I fear that our forests are being depleted daily without any thoughts of replacement (or whatever Agric people call it). I fear that politicians are comfortable with the image that the society is creating for them – thieves. Well, I’m not a thief and I know many in politics who are not thieves.

Nigeria is a great country and we all must begin to task our hearts and characters with a view to unlocking our potentials. This is certainly the biggest battle everyone of us must get on to fight.

I am doing my bit and I have hopes that, like His Excellency is impressed by my work and commitment, the youth demographic will find me a worthy ambassador. I do not believe that I have arrived in terms of performance, but I believe I can do better given the little gains recorded so far.

I must once again acknowledge that the Kogi State government ably led by His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello deserves much credits for its courage in deploying capable young hands in the running of the affairs of the state. Frankly, this is the model I want to see at national levels. I am hopeful that this will happen soon.

But, then, at individual levels, the question still persists, what would we be remembered for?
