Lokoja Caretaker Chair, Committee Members Meet Council Staff, assures of improved welfare

The Catertaker Chairman of Lokoja Local Government, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu and the newly appointed Members of the Caretaker Committee have met with the Management and Staff of the Council to assure them of determination to ensure improve welfare for the workers.

This is contained in a press statement signed by and made available to the media by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Chairman, Hon Iliyasu Zakari which noted that the meeting was held on Thursday at the Council Hall of the Local Government Secretariat.

The statement stated that the meeting commenced with a minute silent in honor of the late immediate past Chairman, Mohammed Danasabe Mohammed, with additional prayers for a peaceful rest for his soul and fortitude for the family and the entire council to bear the loss.

In his opening remarks at the meeting, the Director of Local Government (DLG) in the area, Alhaji Aliyu Musa Omuwa, congratulated the newly appointed Caretaker Committee Members, noting that their appointment came at a very good time.

The DLG stressed that the Caretaker Chairman started on a sound footing because throughout his time in service, this is the first time a Chairman will initiate a Management Team and general staff meeting upon assumption of office, noting that both the management team and staff are very reliable and dedicated to duty.

Alhaji Omuwa acknowledged the improvement in salary for the staff and prayed that it continues in that trajectory to ensure smooth running and improved relationship among the various strata in the council.

He assured the excited staff of the council that the tenure of the current Chairman would bring better life for them, and charged to continue to give their unalloyed support for the administration.

On his part, the Chairman of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Bala Ibrahim Umar, who spoke on behalf of the workers, congratulated the Chairman and the Committee Members for their appointments and described them as credible and dedicated people that would bring their experiences to better the lives of the people of the Local Government.

Comrade Bala, who thanked Governor Yahaya Bello for giving the opportunity to the calibre of persons at the helm of affairs, added that when NULGE had an interaction with the Governor-elect, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo last year, he promised that there would be improvement in workers salary and over the last 7months they have seen improvement.

While urging the state government to also look at implementing promotions and payment of leave allowances, the NULGE Chairman further appealed to the Chairman to look into the area of staff recruitment particularly in the health sector where a lot are retiring, issue of lack of furniture, light and leaking roofs in some parts of the Secretariat, and ensure they are addressed to create the right working environment for the staff.

The NULGE Chair consequently assured the Chairman of their cooperation and adviced him not to listen to rumors what he tagged “The Agoyi Principle.”

In his response, the Caretaker Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu thanked the management and staff for their openness and guidance since he resumed office, and promised to operate an open door policy for which he solicited for their players, support and cooperation.

The chairman used the opportunity to promise to introduce a healthcare welfare package for the staff with the collaboration of NULGE within available resources.

He assured the staff that he will do everything possible to leave a positive mark within his time in office, and enjoined the staff to shun voices capable of negatively impacting productivity.

In her closing remarks, the DPM, Hajiya Aduke Kabir said she is sure that things will be better for the staff under Comrade Abdullahi Adamu and urged the staff for more cooperation, commitment, prayer and support.
