Maiden Ogugu Cultural Day celebrated in Ogugu land
The maiden edition of Ogugu Cultural Day has been celebrated on Saturday in Ogugu, Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State with the Deputy Governor – nominee of the state, Hon Edward Onoja in attendance.
The event which attracted several government functionaries, traditional rulers, political heavyweights among others saw a display of the best of the culture of the people of the area.
In his address at the event, Hon Onoja described the day as historic as it afforded children of Ogugu land to converge to chart a way forward for the area and its people.
He reiterated his commitment to ensuring adequate and equitable socioeconomic and infrastructural development of the entire state, noting that as has been the tradition of Governor Bello, he is determined to touch lives of people irrespective of who they are.
The deputy governor – nominee who appreciated organisers of the day for their good works further called on the people to always identify with one another, stressing the need for community, solidarity, love and sincerity for societal progress.
Earlier in his opening address, the chairman of central Planning Committee for the event, Engr Sunday Okoh praised members of Ogugu Development Union for thinking about organising the day, and thanked them for making members of his committee an important part.
He said Ogugu Day was designed to ensure people of the area converged on a day to recognise one another, appreciate their unique cultural heritage and their traditions and teach the next generation on the history of the area.
Speaking, the President of Ogugu Development Union, Mr Enemona Anyebe expressed appreciation to pioneers on many fronts including educational and economic which saw Ogugu as a leading community among its peers.
The occasion witnessed cultural displays by various traditional groups and associations in Ogugu land including others from the Igbo and Fulani communities and awards presentation to some outstanding members of the community one of the recipients being the Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Rosemary Osinkoya.
