The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC has concluded arrangements to carry out massive arrests of former Local Government Office holders in Kogi State after receiving petition indicting some Liaison Officers/Chairmen between 2011-2016 in Kogi State.

Some of the former council bosses indicted by the petitioner include heads of Local Government Areas including Kogi/Kotonkarfe, Olamaboro, Ajaokuta, Bassa, Lokoja and two others for unlawful withdrawal of public funds and transfers made to companies and legal entities belonging to family members, relatives and government officials in the petitioned councils.

Submitting the petition filed by the group known as The Concern Kogi Transparency Advocacy Group to the EFCC, James Atojoko and David Onumanyi, the Secretary-General and Auditor General respectively said affected chairmen of the listed Local Government Areas were financially reckless as they made cash withdrawals above the lawful limit from their LGs’ accounts and also transferred funds from the councils’ accounts to accounts belonging to their family members and other top local government officials.

Receiving the petition on behalf of the anti-graft agency, Adewunmi Adebayo said there were similar petitions with the agency and disclosed that investigation has commenced and affected persons shall be invited or arrested soon.

There is also an allegation of N500m Dasuki Gate traced to Kogi State during the 2015 general election campaign.
