My administration is returning lost glory of Lokoja LGC – Caretaker Chairman

… I want to be remembered for the good impact on the lives of our people.

The Caretaker Chairman, Lokoja LGA, Comr. Abdullahi Adamu has described the Local Government Tier of Administration as the closest to the people, reason why it should be encouraged and strengthened by granting it full autonomy.

The Transition Committee Chairman made the disclosure in a maiden media parley with indigenous Journalists from Lokoja and Kogi LGAs, praised the present administration of Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo for strengthening and making local government administration autonomous.

While pointing out that he has since returned the lost glory of Lokoja LGC since his assumption of office, wants to be remembered for making positive impact on the lives of the people.

The Caretaker Chairman said upon his assumption of office on 9th January, 2024, was upbeat that with the zeal, he was going to leave lasting legacies; having served within the system, said he assumed office with a blueprint in mind of knowing what to do.

” Upon assumption of office, I met Lokoja LGC Secretariat in darkness. I swang into action, fixed the broken down transformer, restored light to the secretariat, which has made the working environment conducive for workers to come to work”.

” Today In Lokoja LGA, it is common knowledge to see staffers in office because the working environment has been made conducive since I assumed office”.

” Upon my assumption, I met with the Executives of NULGE, Medical and Health Workers. I assured them that efforts would be made to improve on their welfare. You will recall that one of the campaign promises of Gov. Ododo was to improve on the welfare of the local Government workers”.

” I’m pleased to announce that from a paltry 30% salaries of LG Workers, today the present administration is paying 80% with a promise to do more as allocation improves”.

” Similarly, my administration has introduced welfare packages for the staff in the area of health. This development is to enable the workers get intervention of about N20,000 from money that we intend to set aside from internally generated revenue monthly if the need arises. This package will begin hopefully in May”.

On security, the Transition Committee Chairman said the State capital has been peaceful and secured following the determination to sustain the policies of the past administration of former Gov. Bello and that of the present Governor who has assured of sustaining the most secured status of the State.

The Transition Committee Chairman said he has made security of the Local Government a top priority, said upon assumption of office he inherited about 70 Vigilantee, but said with collaboration with local hunters in Oshiokhoshoko, Obajana and other neighbouring communities his administration is collaborating with, the administration has made great success in the arrest of kidnappers and Armed Robbers that was rearing it ugly heads in some parts of the State capital.

” Recently we had a case of hoodlums, masquerading as armed robbers and terrorizing some communities around Felele and robbing students and residents. I am happy to announce to you that following my administration’s intervention with hunters and Vigilantee in Felele. Today, from Polytechnic down to crusher, we have made so much impact, to the extent that peace and safety has returned to all noticed troubled areas. Today, I can boldly say that peace and normalcy has been restored to Oshiokhoshoko and Obajana and in the State Capital”.

” My administration’s proactiveness necessitated in the intervention of the crisis in Doji, Owara Community where we had crisis between the Sawu and Agatu tribes that erupted following a football match at the weekend. Normalcy has returned to the area and we are looking forward to having a lasting solution. I have appealed to the communities not to engage in reprisal attacks. We are on top of the situation for lasting peace”.

” We are also intervening in the crisis between rival Okada groups in Lokoja. I can assure you that we will arrive at a peaceful resolution within both parties.

Towards improved revenue generation, the Caretaker Chairman said his administration is engaging Dangote, Unicane and other Organization operating in the Local Government Area with the aim of increasing it revenue base, said a committee has been set up by his administration to also review the Transportation system, with the view for enhanced revenue.

While pointing out that government is a continuum, the Caretaker Chairman assured of the completion of all the inherited projects by his administration, pointing out that aside getting the value for money spent on the projects, it would help in revenue generation and employment.

The Chairman said his major preoccupation will be employment generation, lamented that the local Government Area has several schools yearning for teachers, assured of efforts for employment of teachers and to also recall those affected by the last screening exercise but have been able to clear up the reasons for their been screened out.

He assured that his administration is resolved to return education and health care delivery to the people as major cornerstone of his administration, said he will want to be remembered for doing what is good for the people, ensure the welfare of workers and civil servants as well as add value to the political class of having leaders who are service oriented and for the good of the society.

The Chairman thanked Gov. Ododo for the support his administration has enjoyed thus far, thanked him for the opportunity given to him to serve. He said the Governor has been magnanimous in the granting of five security vehicles to the local Government, approval of the appointment of additional 50 Vigilantees, disclosed of the metropolicing system to be flagged off by the Local Government in the next few days as the wonderful support enjoyed from the Governor since his assumption of office.
