My Upward Trajectory With DR. Salisu Ogbo Usman

In Life, we meet people at every stage of our growing while some are natural good, humane and extraordinary in what they do, others chooses to do otherwise.

This is my upward trajectory with Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman. It happens three (3)years ago precisely in 2020 after the exit of Dr. Haruna as the Acting Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja. So many felt my end had come because of my closeness with the ‘Acting Rector’. Not knowing a greater messiah was on the way.

One good and faithful afternoon, I had a feeling of being rejected. I felt I was out of luck. I felt totally disappointed but then, I consoled myself and had a resolution of not returning back to Nigeria after the completion of MSc because of the aftermath situation that may unjustly consumed me.

I already gave up my interest in academics as a Young growing lecturer, school of Engineering, Kogi State Polytechnic before God almighty gave me the idea of approaching my younger brother (Hussein), who introduced me to my Bigbross Arome known to Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman.

Bross. Arome quickly identify me and gave a resounding remarks on my personality. I feel energized and so, he willingly book me and later introduced me to Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman the Newly decorated Acting Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic.

My First contact with Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman at Reverton Hotel, Lokoja was the same day, I met my helper and Benefactor. I met him at Reverton Hotel and His first words to me were, “Are you Enejoh?” I replied with a yes, and he said, “I have heard a lot about you, and if you don’t disappoint yourself, you will benefit greatly from our association.”

We exchanged numbers, and I humbly replied, “Whatever you have heard about me is true, sir, but I believe if you speak to Prof. Ajibero, Dr. Haruna, or Alhaji Isah, they will give you a more accurate picture of who I am.

Little did I know that a group of people, led by my own kinsmen, had gone ahead to blackmail me as a killer, gun-carrying thug, cultist, drunkard, and smoker. Despite these false accusations, Dr. Ogbo decided to give me a chance after consulting with the aforementioned individuals. He then asked me, “As an alumnus of the school, what do you desire?” Surprisingly, my interest was not self-centered but rather focused on the well-being of others.

Our bond grew stronger as time went on. During an election in the co-operative society organization in the polytechnic, I was once again blackmailed. I felt distraught and wanted to confront my accuser, but Dr. Ogbo intervened and said, “You are my younger brother, and I will make the decision for you to stay out of that case.” I agreed and said, “Okay, sir.” When the time came for me to travel for my MSc, Dr. Ogbo questioned the timing, but realizing it was for my personal growth, he blessed me.

Throughout my studies, he constantly checked on me like a caring elder brother. After completing my MSc, I returned to Nigeria, and our relationship continued to flourish. In the summer of 2021, he even booked a flight for both of us to travel to the UK. However, fate had it that I forgot my BRP in the UK, preventing me from returning until I had it in hand. Despite the distance, it felt as though I was with him during his stay in the UK since we spoke every hour. Upon his return, he told me, “You must be at the airport to receive me,” and I made sure to be there before his plane landed. Our bond was so strong that my friends labeled me a satanic adviser and even threatened to report both of us to higher authorities. However, by the grace of God, we stood firm.

On February 10, 2022, while I was at Ganaja village, at Marriam Muazu’s house, Dr. Usman Ogbo called me and said, “Enejoh, come to my lodge immediately.” I hurried over to his lodge, and upon my arrival, he asked me, “What are your plans for personal growth and development?” I expressed my desire to further my education, and he responded, “That’s what I had in mind for you as well. Please go and seek admission.” And that’s how I ended up pursuing my PhD in the UK today. He has never treated me differently because of my religious beliefs or my Dekina heritage. Apart from his natural fondness for me, he has elevated my status in society. Even after my own kinsmen sold me to him at a very low price, he nurtured and empowered me, increasing my value.

In all of these, the nice man From the east never met my family yet nice and accommodating to me.

As for myself, my household, and my acquaintances, we wholeheartedly support the Ogbo Agenda, and when the time comes, “we go comot clothes for Ogbo”.
