…says graduates of institute gainfully, self employed

The Rector Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute, Williams Charles Oluwatoyin has opined that with adequate policy, stakeholder and legislative support the institute has the best opportunity of solving the surging unemployment challenge in Kogi State and the country Nigeria at large.

He added that through its vocational and technical education, graduates from the institutes are often advantaged to gainfully secure employment upon graduation or they become employers of labour, because of the quality and standard of their learning alongside the network which the institute provides.

The Rector made this known in a recent interview with the Press where he also hinted that NKFI under his leadership in a little above one year has recorded tremendous feat owing to his passionate drive alongside that of the Governing Council and the management to repositioning the institute to better serve societal needs.

He narrated that since his appointment and resumption, he has ensured that no stone was left unturned in a bid to galvanise the needed support for the institute from its partners including the Korea International Cooperation Agency and the Kogi state government, adding that with the necessary continued support, the institute had several possibilities and potentials that are yet to be explored.

Williams Charles said that vocational and technical education was the type of learning that should be given paramount attention in the country because of its ability to produce young individuals who are fit to work in the manufacturing sectors and handle highly technical machinery with little or no training; an area that have witnessed the influx of foreign expertise.

He added that if the country can produce the needed man power for its planned massive pro production economy, such effort would drastically drag to the barest minimum the already surged unemployment indices and reduce the rate of crimes and criminality in the society. He said that the institute possessed highly relevant and strategic certificate earning long and short term courses, that are needed in an economy that desire to thrive through massive production of its domestic needs and reduce it’s importation cost.

The Rector advised that government and other stakeholders must be intentional about shifting the economy of the nation from a consumer oriented to a production oriented economy, adding same approach must be given to shifting the labour force from white collar oriented to production and manufacturing oriented.
