NKFI Rector Seeks Private Partnership for Ultra-Modern Student Hostel Construction

…vocational, technical institute holds the key to Nigeria’s future – Rector affirms

The Rector of the Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute of vocational and Advanced technology, Dr Williams Charles Oluwatoyin, has appealed to private investors to consider investing in the institution by constructing suitable student hostels.

The Rector expressed the interest of the institution in seeking a public-private partnership to foster a better conducive learning environment for the over 600 students of the institution, adding that corporate organisations and individuals who have a great interest in vocations and technical advancement should make the most of this offer.

Dr Williams Charles alluded that technical and vocational education holds the key to unlocking Nigeria’s potential to evolve into a technological advancement, and private bodies should not take the back seat with regard to investing in the sector.

While alluding to a recent empowerment programme of over 250 youths facilitated by the kogi state government as part of its mandate to empower youths in the areas of technical and vocational training, the Rector noted that private businesses and corporate bodies could, through the institute, implement a robust CSR programme.

Rector Williams Charles explained that the project through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) would be based on build-operate-transfer to ameliorate the accommodation problem in the institution and also ensure probity and accountability.

The Rector made reference to an earlier approval by the Kogi state governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo, for the construction of a 200 bed-space hostel facility for the institute intended to be executed through a public-private partnership engagement.

The Rector, Williams Charles Oluwatoyin, who expressed gratitude to the governor for his continued support, hinted that the institution was on the path towards expanding its operations and attracting interested students from within and outside the state who are willing to live on campus.

He added that one of the strongest impediments to the institution operating at maximum capacity is the non-availability of accommodation for students on campus, noting that the governor’s earlier approval for the building of hostel accommodation was a timely solution and a booster to the potential of the institution.
The Rector assured intending partners of a smooth collaboration, working conditions, and a safe and secure environment with maximum benefit for every interest.

He also stressed the need for the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to assist the institute, which has now attained the status of a monotechnic, with infrastructural projects, noting that the existing structures would not be sufficient to achieve maximum training.

According to him, the state government has invested immensely in the institute, citing many collaborations which have spurred NKFI towards academic excellence.
