Ohiare donates relief items to Kogi flood victims, lights up relief camps »

In response to the flood disaster that has claimed many lives and properties in Kogi state, the Executive Director of Rural Electrification Fund, Dr Sanusi Ohiare has donated food and other relief items worth Millions of Naira to victims in the Internally Displaced Persons Camps in the state.

Items donated include bags of rice, several 7.5kva electricity generator sets, Solar device charging systems and safety kits to the different camps.

Dr Sanusi who was represented by his project coordinator, Mallam Kashim Maahi stated that “Our mission is not only to provide food for the displaced persons but to also ensure their safety by providing electricity to light up their camps while providing means for charging their mobile phones to communicate with their family and loved ones. Additionally, we are also providing life-saving kits for boat riders for the safety of their passengers now that boat ferrying has become a major means of transport in and around the flooded areas.”

Dr Sanusi called on well-meaning Nigerians and friends of the country to support the efforts towards alleviating the suffering of the people.

He commended the sense of urgency with which the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has responded to the disaster, adding that the support was not only necessary at this critical time in the lives of fellow Kogi citizens, but that it equally defines the purpose of leadership exemplified by the Buhari administration.

The relief items were distributed directly to victims in IDP camps at Lokoja, Koton-Karfe, Ajaokuta and Ibaji.
