Olamaboro Chairman Receives Police Special Constabulary Unit, Urges Synergy For Effective Policing

The Special constabulary Unit of the Nigeria Police Force has become a reality as the passing-out parade of the unit was conducted across the federation on Friday 1st of January, 2021.

The special constables are to anchor and coordinate the much-talked about community policing duties.

The Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Hon Adejoh on Monday, 4th January officially received the Olamaboro Set of the Special Constabulary numbering 21, who just passed out of training in Ilorin Kwara State.

Present at the reception ceremony in Okpo, was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the local government, Mr. Victor lkewun, DSS Boss & other Council stakeholders.

The Executive Chairman who congratulated them on their successful training, enjoined them to function within their mode of operation to ensure peace and security in their domain.

Hon Adejoh Pexy who handed them over to the DPO asked them to always harmonize & work as one body for proper results.

The DPO, Mr. lkewun in his remark, congratulated the SCP & thanked the Chairman for creating the enabling environment for them to work.

According to him, they would be deployed to their various communities across the local government to assist the police in modern policing and to stem the spate of crimes in their communities.

Moses disclosed that the special constables have been well trained on how best to perform police duties, intelligence gathering and respect for human rights, urging the officers to make good use of the trainings they have received some far.

Recall that in May 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari directed the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to commence the implementation of community policing strategy across the country.

Community policing focuses on building strong ties between the police and members of the community through interactions with local agencies and members of the public, creating partnerships and strategies for reducing crime and disorder.
