Over N2b spent to offset Wada appointees’ salaries – Ohere
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Ohere has revealed that the present administration of Governor Bello expended over N2b to offset the backlog of salaries and entitlements owed counsellors and chairmen of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by former Governor Wada Idris’s regime.
Hon Ohere gave the revelation at a picnic organized by some loyalists of the New Direction Government from Kogi Central Senatorial District at the weekend in Lokoja.
He said “Governor Bello is a leader without bias who understood governance was a continuum and had continued to tow the part of fairness and equity in his pilot of the state’s affair.
“His words: “The government of Governor Yahaya Bello has so far spent over N2b to clear the salaries and other entitlements owed PDP councilors and local government chairmen by former Governor Wada which was not paid before the expiration of his tenure.
“The bailout funds that came, a part was equally used to clear some pending entitlements owed these former appointees despite the political difference. Governor Bello as a leader is very considerate, with a large heart. He did not say because the appointees were members of PDP and not members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) he was going to withhold their payment.
“Traditional rulers who hitherto were stagnant on the throne for decades got elevated in his time. His administration abolished class and ethnic segregations which were prevalent in Kogi political space.
“The people of Kogi now enjoy peace and unity across all divides. The government took the necessary steps to ensure the safety of its environment and the security of lives and property of its citizens.”
Speaking further, the commissioner said there was barely no infrastructural development when Governor Bello took over as the state was in total shambles, saying that a lot had been put in place with the meagre resources out of prudent utilisation.
Hon. Ohere therefore called on the people of the state to sustain their love and support the reelection of Governor Bello for more dividends of democracy.
