….NUJ, NGE hails governor Bello’s investment in improving journalists’ capacity

The Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello has attested that partnership with the fourth estate of the realm remained a recipe for enhancing the capacity and performance of any individual who occupies a leadership position and desired to add value to the lives of the citizenry.

Governor Bello made this assertions while delivering his remarks at the 3rd Annual GYB seminar for Nigeria’ Political and Crime correspondent/Editors where he added that his administration had no reason not to be friends with media professionals.

He stated that the media through their accolades and criticisms of his government have helped made his second term in office even better by putting his government on its toes in delivering the dividends it promised the good people of Kogi state.

The governor opined that the sole aim of leadership is service and the contribution of one’s quota to the advancement of democracy while assuring that the administration of his successor, Alhaji Usman Ododo will take media partnership further.

Governor Bello noted that he has always remained a purveyor of truth throughout his years in office assuring that whether in and out of office, he would remain vocal in defence of the masses.

Earlier in his remarks, the President Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Mr. Chris Isiguzo commended the Governor for the sustained support towards developing the capacities of journalist, pointing out that such investment has an immense impact on the growth and deepening of democracy in the country.

He added that the media are always aware of who their friends were and while the Kogi governor have steadfastly remained a friend of the media with his numerous kind gestures to the profession and its members, they will ensure that his name remained relevant in the annals of history.

The immediate past President, Nigeria Guild of Editors, Mr. Mustapha Isah said the state governor was finishing his administration on a strong note with numerous good initiatives and people oriented projects.

He said while the state, alongside Beyelsa and Imo is billed to conduct off season election, political actors should desist from heating the polity with certain negative comments in the media space while journalist should also avoid giving such politicians and their dangerous content public exposure.
