Conducts Thorough Evaluation of NIS Facilities Ahead of Launch

The Interior Minister, Honourable Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, alongside Wura-Ola Adepoju, the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), undertook a meticulous inspection of the Immigration facilities at the NIS headquarters in Abuja yesterday, ahead of the Passport Automation Application Process scheduled to launch on Monday 8th January, 2024.

Describing the automation as transformative, the Minister highlights the Federal Government’s commitment to reducing the need for physical documentation while elevating the Immigration Service to align with global standards, ensuring a streamlined, digitized, and user-friendly passport application process for the public.

Speaking to the preparedness of NIS for the launch, the Interior Minister expressed optimism, stating that the NIS facilities are equipped to seamlessly handle influx of online passport applications, and the team, through rigorous training, has demonstrated commendable dedication to the technological shift.

“I extend my gratitude to the leadership and staff of the Nigerian Immigration Service for their receptiveness and commitment to this technological leap. This collaborative effort reflects the government’s dedication to providing efficient and citizen-centric services”, Ojo intimated.

Affirming the NIS’s dedication to a smooth transition, Comptroller General Wura-Ola Adepoju stated, “We have undergone extensive training and system upgrades to ensure a seamless online application process. This modernization aligns with our commitment to serving the public more efficiently.”

Encouraging public embrace, the Minister stressed that a more accessible and streamlined passport application experience from home or anywhere else in the world is a necessary step for national development.
