Pharmacy Week 2023: Health sector holds top priority in our govt – Gov. Bello

The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello has pointed out that the health sector holds a place of topmost priority in his government, hence the massive investment the sector had witnessed in the last seven years of his New Direction Government.

The governor made this assertion on Wednesday at the 2023 Pharmacy Week, Kogi state Chapter, which held at the Federal University Lokoja and was represented by his Chief of Staff, Pharm. Abdulkareem Muh’d Jamiu Asuku. The Theme of the event was “Imperative of Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) ACT 2022”.

The program was well attended and had some top government functionaries in attendance including the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Abdulmumini Danga, the Commissioner for Transport, Hon Baron Okwoli and the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Hon Dansabe Muhammed.

The Chief of Staff who himself is a pharmacist spoke on behalf of his principal, reiterating government’s commitment in the area of public health while he made mention of numerous achievements of the New Direction Administration particularly in the health sector.

According to him, the World class Reference Hospital Okene, the GYB model hospital Gegu Beki, GYB model hospital in Isanlu and the replica of same facilities in Eganyi district of Ajaokuta LGA and Prince Abubakar Audu University at Dekina LGA respectively are obvious good intentions of Gov. Bello’s administration to the people’s health.

Pharm. Asuku who admonished the participants at the event to shun acts capable of tarnishing the image of the profession noted that Pharmaceutical practices at all level is one that is honorable and should be maintained at all times.

He stated that contentment has been his watchword as a young man who is sojourning the political terrain, knowing that a good name is better than riches.

Pharm. Asuku thanked the keynote speaker of the conference, Pharm. Akintayo Olumide Bamidele for his insightful exposé and for making out time to be a blessing to the well attended event.

He further assured participants at the event that government at the state level will continue to strengthen its health institutions for optimal service delivery to its people.
