Road Reconstruction:KGSG Restricts Tankers, Trucks Plying Ajaokuta-Ganaja Route

Following the on going reconstruction on Ganaja Junction to Ganaja Village road and the effort of the state government to ensure free flow of traffic and forestall security breaches on the highway, the Kogi State government has issued an order on the restriction of movement of tankers and trucks in Lokoja through Ajaokuta-Ganaja Route from 8:00pm to 6:00am with effect from Friday 20th November, 2020.

The commissioner of Transportation, Honourable Baron Okwoli said the decision was reached in order to curb the incidence of road accident hence the need to take proactive measure to avert issues that will arise in the festive season.

Okwoli made this known during an interactive meeting with all the relevant stakeholders including;The Nigerian Police, Road Safety corp(FRSC), KOTRAMA, the Vehicle Inspection Office(VIO), Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW) and other security Agencies.

In his remarks, the Sector Commander federal Road safety Corps, Solomon Agure thanked His excellency for taking such a key step towards road management especially in this yuletide season adding that the action will ease the attendant hardship being experienced by the road users and the general public.

He assured the commissioner that the FRSC would ensure tanker and truck operators adhere to the the restriction order stressing that a committee be created for the purpose.

Speaking also at the meeting the Head of operations KOTRAMA Silas Ibrahim suggested that barricades should be provided and law enforcement agencies be stationed on the route to ensure compliance also stressing on the need for prosecution of offenders.

Responding,the Commissioner appreciated the stakeholders for honouring his invitation.He stated that the administration of His excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello places priority on the protection of lives and properties and as such will not relent in its effort to profer lasting solutions to issues that will arise as regards Road Transportation.

He said the ministry of Transportation will not hesitate to invoke the appropriate section of the KOTRAMA Law to enforce this notification against erring tanker and truck operators adding that an urgent task will be created for the cause.
