Security Neutralises Suspected Intruder After Nighttime Breach at Nursing College
Security personnel at Nana College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Otakuhi, have neutralised a suspected intruder following an early-morning security breach that left one guard seriously injured.
The incident, which occurred around 2:30 a.m., involved unidentified individuals who reportedly gained unauthorised access to the campus and broke into the office of the Chief Security Officer (CSO). The suspects were said to be attempting to remove a wall-mounted plasma television when they were confronted by on-duty security staff.
One of the guards, identified as Daniel Itodo, engaged an intruder in a physical struggle but was overpowered, pinned against a wall, and nearly strangled. He sustained multiple injuries during the encounter.
Despite his condition, Itodo reportedly regained control, subdued the suspect, and restrained him with a rope before help arrived.
A follow-up report indicated that the situation escalated before additional security personnel intervened. The suspect was subsequently neutralised under circumstances yet to be fully clarified.
Efforts to escalate the incident internally faced initial delays, as attempts to reach relevant authorities proved unsuccessful. However, Officer Matron R. E. Akor, who arrived at the scene shortly after, facilitated contact with the police.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team responded promptly, assessed the situation, and evacuated the suspect—later confirmed dead—to a mortuary.
While early accounts suggested the attackers may have intended to cause harm, possibly targeting students, authorities have yet to officially confirm the motive behind the intrusion. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the incident was an attempted theft or part of a broader security threat.
The college management has not issued a formal statement at the time of filing this report.
