Shun candidates promoting ethnic sentiment— Group tells Kogi people
Urges support for Ododo/Joel ticket
A political group, APC All Support Group, has appealed to electorates in Kogi State to disregard candidates promoting ethnic or religious sentiments ahead of the November 11th governorship election in the state.
The group called on the people of the state to rally round the candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Alhaji Ododo Ahmed Usman and his running-mate, Comrade Joel Oyibo Salifu, stressing that the candidate has all it takes to unite the state and lead it in the path of sustainable development.
Coordinator of the group, Hon. Obaje David, made the call at a Press Conference organized by the group in Lokoja, Kogi State capital, yesterday, where he expressed the group’s readiness to mibilise for the victory of the APC in the coming governorship poll.
According to him,”Kogi All Support Group is a collaboration of various APC Kogi State Support Groups that worked for the Party’s success in the last General elections. We thank God for the success recorded and the unquantifiable contributions of Our Leader, H. E. Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State to successful outing of the party in the elections”.
He emphasised,” We wish to place it on record that Kogi belongs to in the State. There is superior or inferior tribe, Ogori, Oworo, Nupe, Yoruba, Igala, Bassa , Kakanda, Ebira, etc, all own the State. We are calling on all Kogites to reject any candidate that is promoting tribal hate among our people”.
The group, he stressed, “have confidence that continuity will secure our democracy, hence, the need to harmonise ourselves to vote enmass for the gubernatorial candidate of APC in Kogi State is sacrosanct”.
“We are proud of the numerous growth and development of Governor Yahaya Bello that cut across the three senatorial districts in the state, especially in the areas of security, education, health, roads construction and reconstruction, harmonious relationship among the three arms of governments, women inclusiveness and youth empowerment, equitable distribution of appointments among the three senatorial districts and so on”, he stated.
Convinced that the APC is firmly on the ground in the state and poised for victory, the group, he assured, has the network of supports at the grass root across the state to ensure overwhelming victory for the party, noting that only APC presents the candidate with comprehensive plan for the unity, peaceful co-existence and development of the state.
As part of measures to strengthen the unity and inclusiveness in the state, the group appealed to Governor Bello to consider putting forward an Executive Bill that would make rotational governorship among the three senatorial districts in the state.
This, the group believes, would reduce prevailing inter-ethnic or tribal tension and animosity in the state, noting that this would foster genuine unity and sense of belonging among ethnic groups in the state.
