SSA student Matters to Kogi Governor hosts students leadership, assures them of govt commitment to their welfare
The Senior Special Assistant to Kogi State Governor on Student Matter, Hon Omonu Joshua has played host to the leadership of students from the nine state owned higher institutions where he assured them of the commitment of Yahaya Bello led administration to their welfare.
The meeting held on Wednesday in Lokoja with the leadership of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), Student Union Government (SUG) from all the institutions and tribal leaders of National Association of Okun, Ebira, Igala Students among others all in attendance.
In his address at the meeting which was first of its kind, the Senior Special Assistant told the students that such gathering was a life long ambition he has had in order to ensure he closed every gap existing among all of them.
He said the administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello is dedicated to ensure the young ones understand their place in the polity today as drivers of policies and programmes.
Hon Omonu, who thanked the Governor for the opportunity he has continued to give to the youth including students at all levels, enjoined them to take the front row by supporting the Governor in his bid to give them their pride of place in the society.
He warned them against acts capable of portraying their institutions and the state in bad light, stressing that the Governor’s deliberate involvement of the demographic in governance has helped in addressing several security challenges on campuses in the state.
Hon Omonu reiterated his determination to achieve the unity of all Kogi State students, adding that it was time for students’ leaderships and the entire students of higher institutions in the state to work assiduously for their own growth and development.
He said the present administration had demonstrated its sincere determination to improve lives of every citizen of the state in all facets of life.
Speaking at the meeting, the state commissioner for youth and sports development, Hon Salisu Sani Ogu had assured the students of the commitment to make life meaningful for the people of the state, especially the students.
The commissioner urged the youth in the state not to allow the opportunity of the divine enthronement of Governor Bello to pass them, stressing the need for them to hold on to Governor Bello’s quality leadership which has shown sincere determination to improve their lives.
He was also quick to clarify some of the hush rumors going round about bursary payments by the government and promised that it would be paid before the end of September.
While urging the students to work together and cooperate with each other for their growth and the progress of the state, he used himself as an example of those who used students unionism as an avenue to expand their network, saying it was time for them to contribute their quota to the progress of government and themselves.
The visibly elated student leaders in their separate remarks, thanked the present administration under the two leaders, and said the need for all leaders of students associations in the state to meet and exchange ideas regularly was long overdue.
They expressed gratitude to the government even as they bare their minds on some salient issues bothering on their welfares as their representatives took turns to address the gathering.
They were however resolute in their conclusions that the government of Yahaya has no alternative among all the contenders for November governorship poll in the state and excoressed preparedness to market his candidacy.
