Stakeholders urge unity among Igala people for the progress of Kogi State

A cross section of participants at the Igala Roundtable and Grand Reception for Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and his Deputy, Chief Edward Onoja have urged Igala people and Kogi State in general to be united for the progress of the state.

They made the assertion on Wednesday at the Igala Unity House in Anyigba in separate interviews with our reporter.

The Deputy Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon Ahmed Mohammed said the event was put together to create avenue to discuss problems of the area and chart ways of progress and unity of the land.

He said Kogi State is a constituent that everyone must be responsible for, and called on the Igala people to reach out across the isle and embrace other ethnic groups for the development of Igala land and the state in general.

The lawmaker who applauded the leadership of Igala Cultural and Development Association (ICDA) for putting together the event, said it has further demonstrated the progress made in Kogi State under the present administration of Governor Bello for a united multicultural society like the Confluence State.

Also speaking, the Ejeh Dekina, Dr Usman Obaje stressed that people of the Igala Nation must begin to see themselves as one irrespective of where they come from.

He said politics that divided the people must be put to rest and reach out to the brotherhood that they share to ensure the progress and development of the land.

The traditional ruler said Governor Yahaya Bello has shown that it is only under a progressive and a united State of Kogi that Igalaland and the state would realise its objectives for a developed state.

Other speakers also opined that Igala land is in need of a unifying factor and applauded the present administration under Governor Yahaya Bello and Chief Edward Onoja for lighting the path of all ethnicities and religions in a united manner for the entrenchment of equity and justice for the advancement of society.

The occasion which is currently ongoing includes paper presentations and cultural entertainment by local artists among other attractions.

The event is graced by the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward Onoja, academicians, political leaders, traditional rulers, women and youth groups among others.
