Tribunal upholds Zacharias election, dismisses PDP’s petition

The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in sitting in Lokoja, has upheld the election of Hon. David Zacharias of the All Progressives Congress as the member representing Idah Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Recall that, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Hon. Zacharias as the winner of the 25th February general election at Idah, the headquarter of the Constituency.

Zacharias polled 43,278 votes to defeat Hon. Uchola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 28,532 votes to come second.

But Victor Uchola and the PDP proceeded to the tribunal to challenge Hon. David Zacharias’s victory.

In its unanimous decision on Tuesday today, however, the tribunal dismissed the petition filed by Victor Uchola and his party

The tribunal agreed with Hon. Uchola’s lead counsel, that Hon. Uchola’s petition failed and ought to be dismissed for lack of merit.

The tribunal also awarded N700,000 costs against Victor Uchola in favour of Hon. David Zacharias and the APC.
