Umar Yahaya Condoles Idris Family Over Death of Former Kogi Governor »

The lawmaker representing Omala State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Umar Yahaya, popularly known as Connect, has expressed condolences to the family of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, following his death.

Idris, who governed Kogi State from 2003 to 2012, died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in the United Kingdom at the age of 77. His death has been confirmed by family sources, while several reports have published tributes from political leaders across the state.

In his condolence message, Yahaya described the death of the former governor as a painful loss to the Idris family, Omala Local Government Area, Kogi State and the wider Igala community.

The Omala lawmaker commiserated with the immediate family, friends, associates and political supporters of the late former governor, urging them to find strength and solace in the memories of his years of service to the people.

Yahaya also acknowledged Idris’ place in the political history of Kogi State, noting that his years as governor represented a significant period in the state’s development and public administration.

Idris, popularly known as Ibro, was born in 1949 and served as Kogi State governor for nearly nine years. He was first elected in 2003 and subsequently returned to office after a 2008 re-run election, completing his tenure in January 2012.

Yahaya prayed that Almighty Allah forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, reward his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, while asking Allah to grant the Idris family the fortitude to bear the loss.

The Kogi State Government has declared three days of mourning in honour of the former governor and announced that he will receive a state burial, with the government taking responsibility for the burial arrangements and expenses.
