Kogi Youth endorse Gov Bello for second term
Smarting from his overwhelming endorsement on Tuesday by the non – indigenes in the state, the chances of the candidate of the ruling APC was on Wednesday brightened as the youths added their voices to the call for the return of Governor Yahaya Bello for a second term.
Kogi State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) made the endorsement at a programme it titled; “Youth Awareness and Sensitization which held at the Confluence Beach Lokoja.
Speaking at the event which attracted youth and women groups from the 21 Local Government Areas of the State, the chairman of the Youth Council, Comrade Israel Alonge said they have decided to endorse the Governor because he has shown he is ‘youthful and useful’.
He stated that the youth of Kogi State have become the envy of their counterparts from across the country because Governor Bello has given them a sense of belonging.
He stressed that being youthful and useful has gone beyond ordinary lip service in Kogi today because the youth of the state have realised they are leaders of today in view of the pragmatic decision of the present administration to ensure their inclusion in government and governance.
“Today, we have our destiny in our own hands as all decisions that affect us and the future generation have our inputs. The promoters of the Not Too Young to Run need to come down to Kogi State and learn from Governor Yahaya Bello’s deliberate policy in that regard. This is one of the reasons we are proud of the present administration in the state.”
The state commissioner for youth and sports development, Hon Salisu Sani – Ogu had in his opening address described the Governor as the emancipator of Kogi youth as he is the first Governor to give them the opportunity of active participation in governance.
He said the National Youth Councii of Nigeria under his supervision has constituted an independent Youth Mobilization Campaign Team for the Governor’s re – election, a team the Governor inaugurated by himself and called on the Youth to continue to mobilise, canvass and work to ensure the success of the APC in the November 16 governorship election.
Various speakers at the occasion including the deputy governorship candidate, Hon Edward Onija; the coordinator of EBIGO Agenda, Pharm Alexander Onoja; the State Security Adviser, Navy Commander Jerry Omodara and others spoke on various topics bothering on youth of the state and how they should exploit the opportunities being provided by the present administration to make their lives better.
