The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has urged voters in Cross River State to turn out in greater numbers in the 2027 presidential election to secure a second term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Yilwatda made the appeal at the APC presidential campaign rally in Calabar, where he joined Vice-President Kashim Shettima and other party leaders to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election.

The APC chairman challenged Cross River residents to surpass their previous voting records, stressing that the enthusiasm demonstrated at the rally should translate into votes for the ruling party.

He said the state could become a major economic hub under the Tinubu administration, citing its geographical advantages, commercial potential and maritime opportunities.

According to Yilwatda, the Federal Government’s infrastructure development agenda, particularly the revival of rail transportation, development of seaports and proposed nationwide superhighway network, could create significant economic opportunities for Cross River and the wider South-South region.

He said improved transportation infrastructure would facilitate the movement of people and goods, reduce transportation costs, attract investment and generate employment.

“For Cross River State, the opportunities are enormous. An efficient rail network will improve the movement of people and goods, while functional seaports can expand maritime commerce, create jobs and open new opportunities for businesses.

“A modern highway network will further connect ports, production centres and commercial cities, integrating the state more effectively into Nigeria’s expanding economic landscape,” he said.

Yilwatda described infrastructure development as a critical component of Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, arguing that improved connectivity would enable states to maximise their economic potential and attract private-sector investment.

He urged the electorate to consider the long-term implications of continuity, infrastructure investment and economic reforms beyond the immediate excitement of political campaigns.

The APC national chairman also called on party members, traditional institutions, community leaders, youths and women to intensify grassroots mobilisation across the state.

He said the party needed unity, effective organisation and sustained engagement with voters to strengthen its electoral prospects.

Yilwatda expressed confidence that Cross River would play a significant role in the APC’s 2027 electoral campaign, urging residents to support the continuation of Tinubu’s administration.

He maintained that a second term would provide the government with an opportunity to deepen ongoing reforms, accelerate infrastructure delivery and expand economic opportunities for Nigerians.

The APC called on Cross River residents to convert the turnout recorded at the Calabar rally into electoral support for Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda.

The statement was signed by Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser to the APC National Chairman on Media and Information Strategy.
