Igala Gagos endorse Gov. Bello for second term
Local traditional heads, ‘Gago’, drawn from across the nine Local Government Areas of Kogi East on Saturday said Governor Yahaya Bello would get the support of many voters in Kogi East at the November 16 gubernatorial election.
The chairman of the Igala Gagos, Alhaji Nuhu Alfa said, unlike previous governments before him, Governor Bello honored them by giving recognition to the stool of Gagoship in Kogi East, a gesture that he said gave the Gagos a sense of belonging in the affairs of the state, hence their decision to back the governor’s second term bid.
He said the Gagos are closer to the people at home and they can say that the governor is loved by the people at the grassroot because of the development he brought to Kogi East despite being from another tribe.
This he said would translate to more votes for the governor on election day.
Alhaji Nuhu gave the assurance during the Igala Gagos meeting held in the Igala Unity House, Anyigba.
The chairman who commended Bello’s efforts in tackling the security challenges of the state, especially kidnapping, thuggery and clashes between farmers and herders, said the governor has proven that he has the wherewithal to govern a complex state like Kogi.
The Gago, who spoke on behalf of over 3,200 others, said the governor has done well in the fight against insecurity, construction of roads across Kogi East, provision of motorcycles and monthly salaries to the Gagos, and praised him for the huge support which led to the completion of the Igala Unity House.
“We appreciate your dogged determination to maintain utmost security of the state, especially your effort in eliminating thuggery and farmers/herders clashes, which won you awards and has brought respect and integrity to the state in the comity of states.
“We believe that your robust relationship with the traditional institution in the state has further equipped you with the knowledge of happenings in all the corners of the state which is largely responsible for the positive results being celebrated today. This will surely earn you votes at the grassroots because the people have felt the direct impact of your proactivenes,” Nuhu said.
The Secretary of the group, Omachi-Attah-Onu-Ochaja, Alhaji Yahaya Musa Ibrahim also appreciated the governor for the upgrading of some traditional stool in the state, describing it as unprecedented in the political history of the State.
While appreciating the Attah of Igala, HRM, Idakwo Ameh Oboni II, the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward Onoja, HRH, Sani Simon Ujah, Eje Olamaboro, alongside the APC Zonal Chairman, Hon. Ahmed Attah for their joint effort in introducing the Gagos to the governor and the subsequent recognition, the Gagos promised to mobilize the people in their various domains to cast their votes for APC on November 16.
