Stakeholders in Kogi pageantry raise concerns over climate change

As the discussions about Climate Change reverberate globally, organisers of the Mr Kogi and the Most Beautiful Girl in Kogi State have taken it upon themselves to partner with the government of kogi state to increase the advocacy for green revolution in the state.

To this end, the brain behind the pageantry and Nollywood superstar from the state, Edime Edime has enjoined everybody to lend their voices in order to combat the devastating effects of the phenomenon.

Edime disclosed this at a World Press Conference held in Lokoja the State Capital on Sunday, December 22, 2019.

He said that the ozone layer was being depleted by harmful human actions and wants the people of the state to make their own contribution to halt existing human actions that impact negatively on the environment and save the atmosphere.

The event which is first of its kind in the history of the state attracted some of the best brains in the industry, including entertainers, Compares, Climate enthusiasts, media practitioners, musical artists, actors among others.

Mr Edime urged the people of the state to join Tream Media under the Championship of the Mr Kogi and the Most Beautiful Girl in Kogi in collaborations with humanitarians and Climate Action Foundations in their focus on planting of trees to combat the trend.

Planting of tree, sea grasses and boosting of the use of agricultural cover crops, he said, could help clean up significant amount of carbondioxide, adding that the already chopped down forest in Brazil could draw up to 1.5 billion metric tons of CO2 out of the air.

“As trees grow, they help stop climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the air and storing carbon in trees and soil and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. Trees offer cooling shades, block cold winds, attract birds and wildlife, purify the air prevent soil erosion, clean our water and add grace and beauty to our homes and communities.”

The pet project of the winners of the pageantry therefore would include issues concerning Climate Change as part of their pet project, and called on well meaning individuals and groups to assist in championing the cause in order to save the planet.

In his keynote address, Mr Johnson Musa, the founder of CT – taxi further raised concerns about the phenomenon which he blamed on human activities and advised the public to carry out the three Rs of Reducing, Reusing and Recycling their goods and energy consumption. The sentiment was also echoed by Miss Sherifat Abdulyekini who is one of the organisers of the event.
