Super Lions win White Lions Cup in Kogi State »

The Super Lions of Onzo have defeated the Roki Planners of Gegu – Beki in Kogi Local Government Area of the state by a loan goal to clinch the 2019 White Lion’s Cup organised by a political prodigy from the area, Engr Abubakar Bashir Gegu.

The final match was played on Saturday at the Community Secondary School field in Gegu – Beki, with both teams serving up moth watering football artistry throughout the encounter to justify their emergence as the two best teams in the competition.

It was a dingdong affair between them as they worked to nullify the other’s strength at the start, hence the first half ended in a draw as all efforts to nick at least a goal by either side proved abortive.

The Super Lions, set up in their traditional easy – on – the – eye tactics were as enterprising as they were entertaining in the match, but Roki Planners also didn’t disappoint their fans, utilising their home support to also put in a good showing.

However, the Super Lions, after several forays into the opposition half, were able to make headway in the 69th minute, slotting home from close range after penetrating through the right wing of the field to the admiration of the spectators which included political heavyweights from all parts of the state.

Several attempts by Roki Planners to equalise proved unsuccessful as the Super Lions further threatened to add to their goal and came close to achieving that in the 83rd minute.

Speaking before presentation of medals to the teams and deserving players, Engr Bashir expressed delight at the football artistry on display throughout the competition and urged the players to continue to perfect their talents and avoid all negative vices.

He said the competition which is third in the series was borne out of the need to encourage the youth of the area to perfect their skills and get occupied with positive endeavours rather than taking to social vices.

Engr Bashir therefore called on government at all levels and public spirited individuals to come to the aid of the players to help them make better living off their natural talents.

Highlights of the occasion include the presentation of medals and trophies to the winner, the runner up and other deserving individual players, match officials among others for their sterling roles in the entire competition, musical interlude and other side attractions.
