#EndSars; Group carpets FG on exclusion of Kogi Governor in cttee to engage youth
A Kogi based group, Lokoja Youth Alliance for Progressive Governance has expressed its dismay over the decision of the Federal Government of Nigeria not to include the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on the committee it set up to engage the nation’s youth as part of efforts to address areas of discontent by the #EndSars protesters..
The group made this revelation in a press statement made available to our reporter in Lokoja and signed by its Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu.
Comrade Abdullahi said it was inconceivable that a Governor who was first among Nigeria’s State Governors to embrace the protest and volunteer himself as a leader because of age demographic of majority of those involved, added there was no justification for Governor Bello to be overlooked.
He urged the Federal Government especially Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to look into the matter and see what modalities can be adopted to see to the inclusion of Governor Yahaya Bello.
To him; “If for nothing, Governor Yahaya Bello is the only State Governor that seized the opportunity to present himself as a sitting Governor ready to lead the nation’s youths in their protest as the #EndSars demonstration was without an identified head.
“The Governor also made at least, two public media addresses, appearances and opened the gate of the State Government House to receive the youths when they came on the protest in Lokoja. No other sitting Governor did that apart from him.
“Governor Bello is also a youth who understands the dynamics of the times we are in and the agitation of the young ones. It is therefore not proper and defy all logic that a committee to look into the matter and see you its end was set up without him being included,” he noted.
He stressed that the nation needs a visionary and articulate youth to be a rallying point in times like this, especially among the progressive Governors and his group couldn’t see beyond Governor Bello.
