Current National Concerns Pointer To Youth Leadership In 2023 – GYB
….Says youth exclusion self inflicted
Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has opined that there were strong indications that current national concerns were pointer to a definite shift of the Nation’s leadership into the hands of the youth come 2023.
He added that National cohesion would be impossible without security as the yearnings of the citizens of the nation which cuts across economic, infrastructure and other basic amenities cannot be met without adequate security.
Governor. Bello made this known on Monday at the Progressive Youth Conference organized by the Youth leadership of the ruling All Progressive Congress in Abuja with the theme “The Future is a Decision”.
The Governor who was represented at the event by his Chief of Staff, Pharm. Abdulkareem Jamiu expressed that youth’s exclusion in politics in the nation was a self inflicted injury by the youths themselves many of whom have settled for the back seat since the commencement of the current democratic dispensation in 1999.
He noted that sadly, youths have being on the receiving end of the current threat of insecurity in the nation which has claimed lives of many Armed forces and security operatives hence security should be a priority for any responsible government.
The Governor asserted that Kogi state’s story was different because of the administration’s keenness on youth and women inclusiveness and active involvement in governance, as the state boasts of young set of leaders steering the affairs of the state at various ends.
Governor Bello challenged the youth at the event to go beyond just inclusiveness to absolute participation stating that President Muhammadu Buhari as a visionary father signed the Not too Young to Run Bill to create room for youth leadership in the country.
He noted that while it was a common knowledge that power could only be taken and not given, youth should use the democratically available platform which the All Progressive Congress have provided to enlist more youths in the party.
