Dr. Chioma Amajoh Shines Bright at 2024 Elation Award Night, Bags West African Icon Award

In a night of glamour and recognition, renowned malaria expert and administrator, Dr. Chioma Amajoh, stole the spotlight as she received the prestigious West African Icon Award 2024 in Abuja. This award solidifies her position as a leading figure in the fight against malaria, a disease that has plagued Africa for centuries.

Dr. Amajoh’s tireless efforts in research, policy formulation, advocacy, and implementation have earned her the affectionate nickname “Mama Malaria.” Her leadership as National Coordinator for the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) at the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) in Nigeria has been instrumental in shaping the country’s malaria control strategies.

The Elation Magazine’s West Africa Icon Award (WAIA) recognizes high achievers who have made significant contributions to human and societal development. Dr. Amajoh joins an elite group of 65 prominent Africans, including former Ghanaian President Jerry Rawlings and Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who have received this prestigious award.
