Kogi Students Pass Vote of Confidence on Governor Ododo

The leadership of students from tertiary institutions across Kogi State has expressed their support for Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo. The students leadership comprising of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Tribal Associations across all tertiary institutions in Kogi State, in a press briefing held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Lokoja on Tuesday, passed a vote of confidence on the governor, commending his administration for its exceptional contributions to the development of the state’s educational sector and prioritization of student welfare.

Speaking on behalf of the students, Mohammed Kabir Gomina, President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for Kogi State, highlighted several key initiatives by Governor Ododo that have significantly improved the academic environment and enhanced student well-being.

One of the major achievements praised by the students was the proposed increase and digitization of bursary payments to students, a move they described as a significant relief for many families and a demonstration of the government’s commitment to reducing the financial burden on students.

The students also acknowledged Governor Ododo’s commitment to improving infrastructure across various tertiary institutions in the state. They pointed to the construction of new classroom blocks, lecture halls, laboratories, and the upgrading of libraries, hostels, and administrative offices as clear signs of progress in the state’s education system.

Additionally, the leadership applauded the governor’s efforts in enhancing campus security, stating that the installation of security equipment and deployment of additional personnel had greatly improved safety on campuses, allowing students to focus on their studies without fear.

Recognizing the increasing role of technology in education, the students further lauded Governor Ododo’s investment in ICT facilities and digital learning platforms, which have enhanced the overall learning experience and made education more accessible.

In terms of job creation and youth empowerment, the governor was praised for initiating various skills acquisition programs, internships, and empowerment schemes that have equipped many students with the tools and knowledge needed for self-reliance.

The students also noted the inclusiveness of Governor Ododo’s administration, appreciating the open-door policy that has allowed students to actively participate in decision-making processes and engage with government officials on matters affecting their welfare.

Moreover, the continuation of the free education policy at the lower levels and the payment of internal examination fees were described as crucial steps in easing the financial burden on parents, further highlighting the administration’s dedication to improving education across the board.

In their concluding remarks, the students called on their peers to continue supporting Governor Ododo’s administration, urging them to remain committed to their academic pursuits and resist any attempts to disrupt the progress being made in the state. They expressed their gratitude to the governor for his dedication to students’ welfare and voiced their optimism for future achievements under his leadership.
