Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has unveiled the completed design for the long-awaited Ibaji Road Project and officially flagged off the 2026 Wet Season Farming Programme in Ibaji Local Government Area, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to rural development, infrastructure expansion and agricultural transformation.

During a working visit to the riverine local government, the Governor engaged with traditional rulers, political leaders, women and youth groups, as well as other stakeholders, to discuss key developmental priorities and assess the needs of the people.

Speaking at the gathering, Governor Ododo said the road project remains one of the flagship infrastructure initiatives of his administration and disclosed that the engineering design has been completed and made available for public review and stakeholder input before construction begins.

According to the Governor, the participatory approach is aimed at ensuring that the project reflects the needs and aspirations of the people of Ibaji.
He noted that the construction of the road would significantly improve access to communities, ease the movement of people and goods, unlock the area’s enormous agricultural potential and stimulate economic growth across the local government.

Governor Ododo also used the occasion to launch the 2026 Wet Season Farming Programme by distributing improved seedlings, fertilizers and other farming inputs to farmers in the area.

He urged beneficiaries to make effective use of the support to boost agricultural productivity, improve household incomes and contribute to the state’s food security agenda.

The Governor reiterated that agriculture remains a major pillar of his administration’s economic development strategy, stressing that supporting farmers and rural communities is critical to achieving sustainable growth and ensuring food sufficiency in Kogi State.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security commended Governor Ododo for prioritising the agricultural sector and maintaining a strong focus on rural development.

The Commissioner described the Governor’s visit as a demonstration of leadership that places farmers at the centre of governance, noting that the distribution of farm inputs would reduce production costs and improve crop yields.
He assured farmers of continued support through extension services and technical assistance to ensure the success of the wet season farming programme.

Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Egwuaba, praised Governor Ododo for his commitment to the development of Ibaji, describing the proposed road project as a strategic intervention that would transform the socio-economic fortunes of the area.

She said the road would improve access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities while creating new opportunities for investment and sustainable development.

Traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youth groups equally commended the Governor for sustaining inclusive governance and prioritising infrastructure and agricultural empowerment.

They described the proposed Ibaji Road Project as a long-awaited intervention capable of unlocking the economic and agricultural potential of the local government and pledged their continued support for the administration’s development agenda.
