Group Urges Tinubu to Intervene in EFCC’s Harassment of Yahaya Bello

A group, the Odu Akowe Network (Youth and Student Wing), has called on the Federal Government to intervene and put an end to what they described as the constant harassment of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The group argued that the EFCC’s actions are impeding the progress of the state and distracting the current administration of Governor Usman Ododo.

Speaking at a press briefing on behalf of the group, Comrade Noah Agada emphasized that the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu brought renewed hope for Nigerian youth and society. He noted that the Odu Akowe Network supports Governor Ododo’s mandate to continue the development strides initiated by Bello, but lamented that the EFCC’s actions have become a significant distraction.

Agada also highlighted the contributions of former Governor Yahaya Bello to the state and nation, including his leadership during the 2023 Presidential elections. Despite his unsuccessful bid for the presidency, Bello continued to show loyalty by supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) and galvanizing youth support for the party. The group expressed disappointment that Bello is being “rewarded” for his loyalty with what they see as persecution rather than due recognition.

The Odu Akowe Network stressed that the EFCC’s scrutiny of the past administration is politically motivated, with individuals seeking personal political gains. The group urged the Federal Government to allow Governor Ododo to focus on moving the state forward without unnecessary distractions.

Additionally, Agada praised Bello’s achievements, including his commitment to youth inclusivity, with 100% involvement of youth in his administration, and 45% inclusion of women. He also highlighted Bello’s efforts to improve education, security, and healthcare in Kogi State during his eight-year tenure.

The group called on President Tinubu, the APC National Chairman, and other opinion leaders to intervene and halt the EFCC’s actions. They argued that the anti-corruption agency should focus on policies aimed at youth development and national progress rather than pursuing actions that deplete the state’s resources.

The Odu Akowe Network urged the Federal Government to focus on attracting development to Kogi State, suggesting the implementation of business-attraction programs and tax incentives that would encourage growth and innovation. The group expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s administration and called for continued efforts to foster a bright future
