APC Chieftain Kingsley Fanwo Debunks Allegation of Dropping Gov Ododo’s Name to Support Leke Abejide

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, has dismissed as false and politically motivated the allegation that he dropped Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s name in support of the re-election bid of Hon. Leke Abejide.
In a strongly worded statement released on Thursday, Fanwo described the allegation published by The Guardian and attributed to an unnamed group as “fictional” and “laughable,” asserting that it was the handiwork of political blackmailers seeking to malign his name.
Fanwo, who hails from Mopamuro Local Government Area and is a founding member of the APC, said he remained a loyal party stalwart with a consistent record of delivering electoral victory in his ward and constituency. According to him, he has served as Director of Media and Publicity in two gubernatorial and two presidential campaigns in Kogi State.
“The sponsors of this campaign of calumny are desperate, masked politicians whose tools of trade are blackmail and character assassination,” he stated.
Clarifying his position, Fanwo explained that his public support for Hon. Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives representing Yagba Federal Constituency, is based solely on Abejide’s track record and potential to attract development to the area if re-elected under the APC platform.
“If Elder Leke Abejide defects to the APC, I will support him to win the party’s ticket and stand behind him for re-election. That is my personal decision. It is not imposed, and certainly not sponsored,” he emphasized.
He also dismissed insinuations that Governor Ododo is backing Abejide’s re-election bid, stating that the Governor is a democrat who respects the people’s right to choose their representatives.
“Governor Ododo is my boss, but he is not interfering in the democratic processes leading to the 2027 House of Representatives election in Yagba,” Fanwo added.
The APC chieftain maintained that he holds no grudges against other aspirants and expressed readiness to lead public campaigns to woo Abejide into the APC, stressing that the party should be home to proven performers.
Fanwo concluded his statement with a message to his critics, urging them to “stay in their lane” while reiterating his determination to pursue his convictions without fear of blackmail. He also revealed that his legal team is reviewing the publication for possible legal action.
