KERC Partners Light Up Movement on Efficient Electricity Supply in Kogi State

The Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has partnered the state’s power sector pressure group, Light Up Movement, on efficient power supply across the state.

This was the development that was discussed by the two organizations in Lokoja at a meeting on Friday.

KERC’s General Manager in charge of Engineering, Engr Umar Usman, who briefed the meeting said the decision is necessary as part of efforts to roll out many innovative ideas that would ensure electricity consumers in Kogi State get value for money and for the investors to also be able to recoup benefits of their investment.

To this end, the two organizations have concluded on the need to carry out sensitization of energy end users and ensure effective feeder monitoring and performance documentation, including the process of infrastructure upgrade.

Other areas of discussion at the meeting include the need for mass metering and timely complaint resolution in ways that would tidy the sector for all stakeholders in the state.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of Light Up Movement, Comrade Iliyasu H Zakari expressed the readiness of the movement to ensure the success of any genuine programme that address the challenges electricity consumers face.

Comrade Iliyasu noted that as a body, Light Up has always advocated on the need for efficiency, fair billing and upgrade of the Discos infrastructure as well as maintenance of energy architecture in the state and that it would continue to do so.

He said beyond advocacy, Light Up Movement is ready to work with organizations that ensure improved supply of electricity to the people because it is a veritable tool for social and economic development across the state.

The meeting also had the Assistant General Manager in charge of Network for KERC, Engr. AA Abdul; the body’s Assistant General Manager, Health and Safety, Engr. Shaibu Akoono; and Mallam
Ibrahim Shuaibu Nuhu, Head, Human Resources; in attendance.

Others are the Light Up Movement’s Secretary, Yabagi Mohammed, and other members, including Saidu Bala Sha’aban, Bamisaiye Abubakar, Mrs. Helen, Ahmed Ahmad Abubakar Datti, Abdulkarim Kerry Haruna and Joseph-church Yabayanze.
