Tinubu Postpones Trips to G20, AU-EU Summits Over Security Concerns

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, to allow for further security briefings following recent attacks in Kebbi and Kwara states.

In the statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the President was expected to depart Abuja on Tuesday for the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa and later attend the 7th AU–EU Summit in Angola. However, he suspended his travel plans after receiving reports on the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and Monday’s attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

He said in response to a request from the Kwara State Governor, President Tinubu has directed the military and police to deploy additional personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area. He also ordered security agencies to pursue the bandits responsible for the attack.

“The President is awaiting detailed reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as updates from the police and the Department of State Services on the Kwara incident”.

Tinubu reaffirmed his directive to security agencies to intensify efforts toward rescuing the 24 abducted schoolgirls and ensuring their safe return.
